PHOTOGRAPHY

These photographs span many years and reflect my varied approaches.  A series of self portraits that are, essentially, abstract share space with images that are also included in the double vision series, portraits of human form objects and more convential photographs of real people.

In the absence of certainty, these images tempt you to both decipher the “real” form and relationships captured on film and also to simply let the shape color and line of the images suggestively engage a more subconscious response.

This series explores the layered nature of the visual world and by extension metaphorically how we perceive and engage with reality.  Reflective surfaces  and slow exposures both present the opportunity to capture multiple levels of visual information.

This is a series of photographs that specifically results from time spent living and traveling in Europe and living in New York City.  There is something about the constant motion of urban life and the lack of connection to the space in which we move that is captured in these images .  I am as interested in the movement as I am in the subterranean landscape in which we move.

Eliciting memories of childhood play with a kaleidoscope, on first glance, the familiarity of these images appeal with their apparent abstract simplicity. There is a deeper underlying challenge, however that stems from the unfamiliarity of the single (or occasionally double) image obfuscated by its own duplicate mirrored and layered upon itself.

COMPOSITIONS

Begun with the process of folding and manipulating snap shots and disposable images, the newest work draws out the found images that appear when the original image is no longer recognizable.  This work incorporates abstract, portraiture and the practices and eye that have been at the center of my work for years.
